Where is the number for my device?

Unplug the LightDey and turn it over. The white label at the back shows a long IMEI number. We only need the last 7 numbers of it. Type them in and you are done — you can also type the whole long number and we will keep the last 7 for you.

Question 2

What does the small light on the device mean?

Accepted Answer

Steady: your LightDey is plugged in and talking to us. Blinking: it is still starting up. Give it two minutes. Off while there is light in the socket: unplug it, wait ten seconds, and plug it back in.

Question 3

We say your device is not reporting. What now?

Accepted Answer

First check the socket still has light by plugging in something else, like a phone charger. If the socket is fine, unplug the LightDey, wait ten seconds and plug it in again. If we still hear nothing after ten minutes, the SIM inside may have no signal in that spot. Try a socket closer to a window.

Question 4

I did not get an alert when light came back.

Accepted Answer

Check your alert preferences: at least one of text message, phone alert or WhatsApp must be on. Check your quiet hours. If light came back inside your quiet hours, we hold the alert until quiet hours end. We also wait a short while before alerting, so a flicker does not wake you. You can shorten that wait in your preferences.

Question 5

Why does someone in my family not get alerts?

Each person must be added as a recipient and confirm the six-digit code we text them. Until they confirm, we do not send them anything. You can resend the code from their name on the recipients screen.

Question 6

Does LightDey work when my internet is down?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The device uses its own SIM, not your wifi. The app itself needs internet to load new readings. When you are offline it shows the last thing we knew, with the time it was recorded.

Question 7

Can the device text me by itself?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The plug carries its own SIM card, so it can text you directly as well as through LightDey. Open the device from your device list and use 'Set up by text message'. Text #00# to the device SIM from the phone that should be the main number, then #08#+234... to add anyone else. Send #08# on its own and the device texts back every number it has saved. #09#+234...# removes one, and #15#1# asks it to warn you when its signal gets weak.

Question 8

How do I put LightDey on my home screen?

Accepted Answer

On Chrome, tap the three dots at the top right, then 'Add to Home screen'. On iPhone Safari, tap the share button, then 'Add to Home Screen'.

Question 9

The hours look wrong to me.

Accepted Answer

All times and days are counted in Lagos time, from midnight to midnight. A stretch of light that runs past midnight is split between the two days, so each day only counts its own hours.
